Earlier today I posted three images to Instagram, and that’s a frustrating experience. Not only did I have to heavily censor the images, I had to add white borders to avoid cropping. At a mere 1080 pixels wide, image resolution is severely degraded on Instagram. Here are those three images, uncensored, in their original aspect ratios.

Two light setup, the tight cropping feels more intimate than simply placing her in the center of the composition.

The white region is a v-flat and is actually about 4 feet behind her, the black is another v-flat positioned very close to her. This allows the light to fall on the v-flat and spill over onto her body, but not onto the black region.

Similar setup with two v-flats, this time I added a second light to separate her body from the black background.
